Square Enix has officially unveiled Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, a full 3D remake of the PlayStation classic Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Confirmed during today’s Nintendo Direct, the ambitious JRPG will release worldwide on February 5, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
A Fully 3D Reimagining of a Classic
Unlike the HD-2D remakes of other Square Enix RPGs, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined has been rebuilt in a hand-crafted 3D style designed to resemble a living storybook. Akira Toriyama’s beloved character designs are translated into charming 3D doll-like models, while towns, dungeons, and continents appear as intricate diorama-like landscapes.
The remake stays true to the original’s epic time-spanning narrative as players set out from Estard to restore shattered continents. However, Square Enix has refined pacing and modernized gameplay to enhance accessibility.

New Combat Features and Vocation System
The traditional turn-based combat system returns but with new layers of strategy. Players can:
- Dual-class with the new “Moonlighting” system.
- Unleash powerful “Let Loose” skills.
- Summon monsters through the revamped Monster Master vocation.
These additions aim to keep battles fresh across the game’s legendary 100-hour runtime.

Collector’s and Digital Editions
Alongside the standard edition, Square Enix announced two premium versions:
- Collector’s Edition (Square Enix Store exclusive): Includes a SteelBook case, Smile Slime plush, ship-in-a-bottle figure, DLC packs, and a special costume for Ruff.
- Digital Deluxe Edition: Features 48-hour early access, exclusive cosmetics, and three DLC packs.
All pre-orders come with the Early Bird Bonus, which grants the Hero a Dragon Quest VIII costume, three Seeds of Proficiency, and a platform-exclusive Slime Shield for digital buyers.

A Timeless Adventure, Modernized
First released in 2000 on the original PlayStation, Dragon Quest VII has long been regarded as one of the series’ most ambitious entries, famous for its expansive content and unique fragment-based world-building. With Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, Square Enix seeks to preserve the original’s massive scope while modernizing visuals, exploration, and progression for today’s players.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches worldwide on February 5, 2026 across Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. Pre-orders are open now.
