In an intense showdown, Filipino esports team OMO Abyssinian secured 2nd place in the highly-anticipated Pokémon Unite World Championship Series 2023. The battle unfolded in Yokohama, Japan from August 11 to 13, as top gaming talents clashed in action-packed duels in the virtual Pokémon universe.
Backed by esports entity Odd Man Out, OMO Abyssinian’s stellar performance earned them a silver medal. Their journey to the finals included a fierce clash with Canadian esports force Luminosity Gaming, culminating in a thrilling final match. Despite missing the championship title, OMO Abyssinian took home $75,000 for their efforts.
Luminosity Gaming’s Sean Tucker acknowledged OMO Abyssinian’s reputation. “Facing them in the winner’s bracket, we knew they were the best team. We were even hoping for Mjk or Oyasumi Makuro to beat them so we wouldn’t face them again,” he said, highlighting the respect and competition in the championship.


OMO Abyssinian’s roster includes Jose Miguel Liban, Luis John Felizarte, Michael Vaughn Ocio, Joshua de Leon, and Joe Daryl Maghanoy, who showcased teamwork, skill, and determination. Their prowess and strategy propelled them into the Pokémon Unite World Championship, placing them among the elite.
