Former Square Enix Executive Said They Should Have Made A Game Like Genshin Impact

Former Square Enix executive Jacob Navok recently expressed his views on Twitter, suggesting that the company missed an opportunity by not creating a game akin to Genshin Impact. Navok highlighted the appeal of live service-based games, noting that maintaining player interest and hype is challenging, yet crucial for success.

Navok emphasized that the issue isn’t the development cost but rather the selling price and market size. He pointed out that many players now prefer live service games and are willing to invest both time and money in them. This trend is evident in the success of Genshin Impact, compared to some of Square Enix’s less successful live service ventures.

Square Enix has found some success with live service games like Final Fantasy XIV and mobile titles such as Dragon Quest Walk. These games have helped the company, which has struggled with AAA games, by demonstrating that consumers are eager to spend on live service experiences.

Navok questioned why Square Enix allowed another company to dominate this lucrative market with Genshin Impact. He hopes that developing similar games will become a major focus for Square Enix in the coming years, ensuring they capture a share of this profitable segment.
