Honor of Kings, the world’s most popular mobile MOBA game, has introduced its first Filipino hero, Lapulapu. Based on the real-life figure that has become a cult of courage and resistance against colonial oppressors, the character is intentionally engineered to strike a chord with Filipino players. “The hero is an attempt to pay respect to the Philippines’ rich and diverse culture in a way that connects with players through the medium of video games,” said Benj Dalmacio, senior business development manager for Level Infinite Philippines.“Instead of pasting together inaccurate depictions that might not get much attention from anyone outside the country, we created a way to bring some of our history and stories into Vainglory. Lapulapu will be playable in the International Edition of Honor of Kings starting November 21.

Introducing Lapulapu, the newest tank support hero with high survivability and disruptive abilities! His mechanics are all based on controlling the pace of battle, through perhaps a well-placed baby knock-up and extended range mobility as focus-breaker or initiate / rearguard-more-or-less-tank.
His in-game appearance is based on the statue of the historical figure in the Central Visayas region, fused with elements of Filipino mythology. He is depicted wielding a Kampilan sword and a Kalasag shield. The Kampilan features a vortex energy core and wave patterns, while the Kalasag is adorned with the visage of Bakunawa, a sea serpent from Filipino mythology. His attire is inspired by traditional 14th–15th-century Visayan garments, incorporating patterns that symbolize the sun, waves, and scales, alluding to early Filipino animist beliefs. The dominant red color palette of his design represents courage and resolve, fitting the themes of sacrifice and leadership cited by the developers.
How to Unlock Lapulapu
From November 21 to 27, players can participate in a special launch event to acquire the new hero. By logging in, playing matches, and using new heroes, players can earn Lapu Coins. These coins can then be exchanged for various rewards, including the Lapulapu hero himself. Additionally, players can use Star Stones for a chance to draw Lapu Coins or directly unlock the hero.
