Horizon: Steel Frontiers Announced as New MMORPG from Sony and NCSOFT

Sony Interactive Entertainment and NCSOFT have revealed that a new MMORPG based on the popular Horizon: Zero Dawn universe is in development, titled Horizon: Steel Frontiers. The game will launch on PC and mobile platforms, marking an expansion of the Horizon brand into a massive online multiplayer space.

What We Know So Far

  • Steel Frontiers is designed specifically for PC and mobile, rather than traditional consoles.
  • Players become machine hunters in a new region called the Deathlands, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico.
  • The game emphasises both cooperation and competition, hunt giant machines together, or fight for resources and dominance among rival tribes.
  • Rather than controlling the series’ traditional protagonist, this game will allow full character creation and customisation for each player.

Sony Sticks To Pushing To PC and Mobile

This announcement spotlights Sony’s intention to bring one of its flagship action-adventure franchises into the MMORPG realm, a space dominated by PC and mobile platforms. Partnering with NCSOFT, a company renowned for large-scale online games, the move signals the series’ next phase: open, shared worlds, organic player interactions and ambitious scope beyond its console origins.
