An end of an era. Miniclip the popular game website known for its entertaining plethora of free games has officially shut down. The site has been a popular go-to for people on the net who are trying to escape absolute boredom. But with mobile gaming becoming more accessible to anyone, Miniclip’s demise was inevitable.
The reason for Miniclip’s closure was because of the decline of daily players and the dwindling revenue of web-based games. The phasing off of Adobe Flash player was also a big reason why the website’s popularity declined as most of its games are Flash-based. The news isn’t really recent as the people behind the website have revealed their plans to shut down the site since March and that they were now focusing on their mobile games which have accumulated over 4 billion downloads globally.

Miniclip became the go-to website for teens to play web games back in 2001 onwards. It had over 400 games in every category possible from first-person shooters to puzzle games. In 2010, the company opened its mobile game division and has seen a steady change as players from their website declined while the player count increased in their mobile games so it was a no-brainer for them to focus on the platform that is becoming more successful.
With the company now focusing on a better revenue-generating business model, Miniclip will now be shutting down its servers except for 8 Ball Pool and Agario. Rest In Peace, Miniclip. You saved us from the mundane and gave us fond memories.
