Following what is being referred to be corporate defamation, a Shanghai court has found in favor of “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang” developer, Moonton Games in a legal battle against its long-running rival, Tencent. According to one of China’s biggest digital media outlets, Jiemian, the court supported a prior decision that Moonton was the victim of corporate slander committed by Tencent in an effort to harm the game developer’s reputation and undermine Tencent’s standing in Indonesia.
According to the allegation, Tencent recruited attorneys to contact Moonton’s Indonesian partners, RevivalTV, in advance of the MPL esports competition. Tencent reportedly used aggressive rhetoric, asserting that they had already won the ongoing lawsuit for plagiarism between Riot’s “League of Legends” (owned by Tencent) and “Mobile Legends” despite there being no such verdict. Tencent asserts that Moonton CEO Xu Zhenhua breached non-compete agreements by forming the company after he was terminated from the company.

The corporation lost the case because the court decided it was improper for them to inform business partners that they had won a lawsuit when they actually hadn’t. As a result, Tencent has been mandated to compensate Moonton for the occurrence with a total payout of 220,000 Yuan (around 30,600.00 US Dollars).
It should be noted that a prior court had already found in Moonton and that the Appeals Court upheld the judgment against Tencent, which led to today’s decision. Both companies have yet to address the decision publicly.
