Nexon Cancels Upcoming RPG Based on Warhammer Age of Sigmar

In a surprising move, Nexon has canceled its highly anticipated Warhammer: Age of Sigmar RPG, developed in collaboration with Thought Pennies. This decision has led to significant layoffs at the studio.

Background on the Canceled Warhammer RPG

Announced in 2021, the game was envisioned as a player-versus-environment (PvE) social multiplayer experience, set in the expansive Warhammer: Age of Sigmar universe. It was planned for release across PC, consoles, and mobile platforms.

Strategic Shift and Project Termination

According to a Thought Pennies spokesperson, “While the partnership worked well and we got a lot of good input from Nexon, Nexon made a strategic change. Late last year we agreed to end the project.”

Impact on Thought Pennies

The abrupt cancellation has led to significant layoffs at Thought Pennies, a studio known for its work on franchises like Star Wars and Final Fantasy.

While this project will not come to fruition, the Warhammer franchise continues to expand. Games Workshop has plans to further develop the series, including collaborations with Amazon Studios to bring Warhammer 40K to both film and television
