Nexon’s Project RX Transitions from Unity to Unreal Engine 5

48% of mobile games globally are developed using the Unity engine. However, recent discussions reveal that Nexon Games’ Project RX, initially built on Unity, has transitioned to Unreal Engine 5 to achieve higher quality.

Development Journey of Project RX

Initially, Project RX’s development utilized the Unity engine, enabling the team to create promotional materials swiftly. However, during a recent discussion, Gyeong-Seop An, head of MX Studio, Yong-ha Kim, head of IO Division, and Min-seo Cha from RX Studio, revealed that the team decided to switch to Unreal Engine 5 to pursue a higher level of quality for the game. This transition leverages the team’s expertise with Unreal Engine 5’s advanced features, aiming to enhance the game’s visual and performance aspects.

Distinct Identity Beyond Blue Archive

While early visuals of Project RX may evoke comparisons to Nexon’s Blue Archive, the development team emphasizes their intent to craft a unique experience. They aim to establish strong selling points distinct from Blue Archive, particularly in gameplay and other core aspects. Despite these ambitions, the game’s specific genre remains undecided as the team continues to explore the most fitting direction for Project RX.

Thematic Focus and Character Design

Project RX is set to delve into “subculture” themes, focusing on the protagonists’ daily life challenges. The initial teaser showcases characters with modern designs infused with traditional cultural elements. Notably, one character features cat-like ears and a tail, suggesting a universe inhabited by hybrid human-animal races.

Current Development Status

Currently, Project RX is in its early development phase, with no specific release timeline announced. For ongoing updates, interested individuals can monitor Nexon’s official website.
