Nintendo Wins Lawsuit Against EveryGameGuru for Streaming Pirated Games

The Japanese gaming behemoth Nintendo has won a court case against streamer Jesse Keighin, also known as EveryGameGuru. Keighin was charged with taunting Nintendo’s legal team while streaming pirated Nintendo Switch games, some of which had not yet been released.

The Deets In The Case

Court documents claim that Keighin sent mocking messages to Nintendo, claiming he had “a thousand burner channels” and that he would continue streaming despite the frequent appearance of leaked Nintendo games on his channels. After Keighin failed to reply to the complaint, the judge decided in favor of Nintendo and mandated that he pay $17,500 in damages. Some of Nintendo’s more general requests, such as an injunction against unnamed third parties and the destruction of all devices used to circumvent the law, were not granted by the ruling.

“I’m watching you…”

Nintendo Is On A Crusade

Nintendo appears to be sending a message: streaming games before official release and facilitating piracy can lead to legal consequences. Any person with a common sense would know this. But Nintendo’s win, this fact has been a reality check for those who keeps poking them with a stick. This also reminds platforms and creators that the digital age has made intellectual property enforcement more watchful.

The real lesson? Don’t be like EveryGameGuru.
