The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have confirmed the release date for their new life simulator game, Pokémon Pokopia. Developed by Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio, the game will launch on March 5, 2026. This title is often described as a Pokémon version of the popular Animal Crossing series. The news is exciting for fans, especially since the game is set to cost US$69.99, and a new trailer is scheduled for release this week on November 13, 2025.
Introducing the New Game Key Card Format
Pokémon Pokopia will also be notable for being the first physical Nintendo Switch 2 game to use a “Game Key Card.” These new physical cards contain only an activation key for the game. This means that after buying the card and putting it in the console, players must still download the entire game from the internet. This setup has caused some debate among fans regarding game preservation.

How the Game Key Cards Work
Nintendo recently put out a video explaining how to use these new Game Key Cards on the Nintendo Switch 2. The video showed the box and card for Pokémon Pokopia, walking users through the steps to insert it and start the download. While the cards do not hold the game data itself, players will still be able to trade or sell these physical Game Key Cards just like any other physical game released for the new system.
