The iconic Ragnarok gaming franchise has announced a major partnership with Sky Mavis, the creators of Axie Infinity, to bring multiple titles to the Ronin blockchain. This collaboration is a significant step aimed at introducing the massive global fanbase of the classic Ragnarok intellectual property into the world of Web3 gaming and digital ownership.

Ronin, which is the Ethereum sidechain developed by Sky Mavis, was selected as the platform due to its proven track record in gaming and its large, active community, especially in the Southeast Asian market. The overall strategy is to leverage the nostalgic and successful Ragnarok brand to attract millions of traditional gamers who may not have previously engaged with blockchain technology.

Featured Ragnarok Web3 Titles

Initially, a strategy game called Ragnarok: Monster World was announced for the Ronin network, featuring elements of tower defense and monster collecting. The game allows players to collect and battle with monster NFTs known as “Ragmons,” including familiar creatures like Porings. This title was scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2024.

Separately, another title, Ragnarok Landverse, is also coming to the Ronin network in early 2025. This game offers a Web3 version of the classic Ragnarok Online MMORPG experience, incorporating blockchain features like NFT item ownership and a play-to-earn economy.
