Sandfall Interactive to Keep Studio Size Small for Next Project

Following the massive success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which won Game of the Year for 2025, Sandfall Interactive has no plans to rapidly expand. Studio director Guillaume Broche shared in a recent interview that despite having more financial resources now, he is not tempted to move into a large scale production model. Broche believes that having creative limitations is actually beneficial and helps the team reach its best potential. The studio intends to keep its current structure to maintain the hands on approach that led to their recent critical acclaim.

Passion Over Management

A key reason for this decision is the team’s preference for active game development over administrative management. Broche noted that both he and the management team enjoy being directly involved in the creation process. Scaling up the studio would likely force them into more managerial roles, which would take away from the work they love most. By staying small, the team can focus on the quality and artistic vision of their projects without the added complexity of running a massive corporation.

Focus on Future Quality

The past five years of development on Expedition 33 were described by Broche as some of the best of his life, and he hopes to replicate that experience with their next project. While the studio did face a minor controversy regarding its disqualification from the Indie Game Awards due to generative AI usage, the team remains focused on delivering high quality content. They recently released a major free update for Expedition 33 and are looking forward to starting their next journey with the same creative philosophy that brought them success.
