The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie Cast Revealed

After months of anticipation, Nintendo has officially announced the lead cast for its upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie, and the internet is lighting up with reactions! Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will take on the iconic role of Link, while Bo Bragason will portray Princess Zelda.

The news was shared in a statement from Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto, who expressed his excitement about seeing both actors bring the beloved characters to life on screen. The film is now scheduled for theatrical release on May 7, 2027.

Who Are the New Link and Zelda?

Though young, both actors bring experience to the table. Bo Bragason, 21, is best known for her roles in Renegade Nell and The Jetty, and is already gaining attention for her strong screen presence. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, just 16, earned acclaim for his role in The Haunting of Bly Manor. While his resume is still growing, Ainsworth’s casting as Link signals a bold direction for the film.

A new promotional image revealed the two actors in costume. Bragason wears a striking blue gown reminiscent of Zelda’s Breath of the Wild look, while Ainsworth sports a familiar dark green tunic—classic Link.

What We Know About the Zelda Movie (So Far)

This Legend of Zelda adaptation has been in development since its official announcement in November 2023. Here’s what’s confirmed:

  • Director: Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes)
  • Screenwriter: Derek Connolly (Jurassic World)
  • Producers: Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad (former CEO of Marvel Studios)
  • Distribution: Sony Pictures Entertainment (co-financing alongside Nintendo)

Initially scheduled for a March 2027 release, the movie was delayed to May 7, 2027 for “production reasons,” according to Miyamoto. This new date strategically avoids competition with other major films, including Sonic the Hedgehog and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

What’s the Film’s Tone and Style?

Director Wes Ball has clarified his creative vision: no full CGI or mo-cap overload. He’s aiming for something grounded and real.
“This has to feel like a serious movie—cool, fun, but something meaningful,” Ball shared in a recent interview. That means practical effects, grounded fantasy settings, and storytelling that honors the legacy of The Legend of Zelda while keeping it accessible to new audiences.

The Internet Reacts to the Casting News

As expected, fans are going wild online. Social media exploded with reactions—some thrilled, others skeptical—over the youthful casting. But most agree: Nintendo is clearly aiming to strike gold again, following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

With less than two years to go and the cast now in place, all eyes are on what comes next—especially a first look at Hyrule’s world and possibly even Ganon’s casting.
