“Throne & Liberty” Producer Resigns Amidst Mobile Version Rumors

The future of the eagerly awaited MMORPG “Throne & Liberty” (T&L) seems increasingly uncertain as news emerges from South Korea regarding significant changes in the game’s leadership. Ahn Jong-wook, the producer of T&L, has stepped down from his position, leading to a reorganization of the project’s management. This information, confirmed by South Korea’s MTN, adds another layer of doubt to the game’s Western launch prospects.

While the specific reasons behind Ahn’s resignation remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that Choi Moon-young, the executive director, will assume the additional role of producer. Choi has a long history with the project, having been involved since the early 2010s when T&L was still associated with the Lineage franchise.

Despite this internal shake-up, NCsoft, the developer of T&L, remains committed to launching the game globally, including in Western markets. The release is still targeted for 2024, with Amazon slated as the publisher. Furthermore, Amazon Games officials are reportedly in discussions with NCsoft to solidify the game’s international launch plans, which also include other East Asian regions such as Taiwan.

Adding to the speculation, there are now rumors of a mobile version of T&L. Insider sources suggest that this move is part of a strategy to revive the MMORPG’s struggling fortunes through both domestic service improvements and international expansion. While these plans are described as being “actively considered,” they have yet to receive official confirmation.

In summary, the departure of Ahn Jong-wook and the subsequent leadership reorganization at NCsoft introduce new uncertainties for “Throne & Liberty.” However, the company’s ongoing efforts to bring the game to a global audience, coupled with the potential development of a mobile version, indicate that T&L’s journey is far from over.
