Ubisoft has announced the closure of its Leamington studio after 23 years of operation. This decision is part of a broader restructuring effort that will affect approximately 185 employees across multiple locations, including studios in Düsseldorf, Stockholm, and Newcastle-based Ubisoft Reflections.

A Storied History Comes to an End
Founded in 2002 as FreeStyleGames by former Rare and Codemasters veterans, the Leamington studio gained recognition for developing titles like DJ Hero and Guitar Hero Live. After being acquired by Ubisoft in 2017, the studio transitioned to a support role, contributing to major franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Star Wars Outlaws.

Reasons Behind the Closure
According to Ubisoft, its decision to close the Leamington studio and restructure other locations stems from efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs, ensuring long-term stability. The company has faced challenges, including delays and underperformance of key titles like Star Wars Outlaws, which did not meet sales expectations.
