Borderlands 4 Story Trailer Unleashes Chaos, Timekeeper Reign, and Revolution on Kairos

Publisher 2K and developer Gearbox Software have just dropped the official story trailer for Borderlands 4, and it’s as wild, gritty, and chaotic as fans could hope for. The trailer sets the tone for a world on the brink of revolt, ruled by a cybernetic tyrant known as the Timekeeper, whose dark grip over Kairos is about to face a vault-hunting reckoning.

A Brutal New Villain and a World on Lockdown

The trailer opens with a chilling look at Dominion City, the impenetrable fortress from which the Timekeeper commands his iron-fisted regime. Citizens are subdued with spine-implanted tech called Bolts, which force obedience. Even the new Vault Hunters aren’t spared—captured and bolted shortly after crash-landing.

Meanwhile, the catastrophic arrival of Elpis—a shattered moon entering Kairos’ orbit—triggers devastation across the planet, giving the people a reason to rise up. The Crimson Resistance is forming, and leading its absurd charge is none other than Claptrap, self-declared mastermind and part-time freedom fighter.

Looter Shooter Mayhem Meets New Mechanics

Borderlands 4 promises the core mayhem fans love: billions of weapons, over-the-top enemies, massive boss fights, and four brand-new Vault Hunters. But this time, the chaos hits harder and faster. New traversal mechanics like double jumps, gliding, dodging, and grappling expand combat strategy and mobility across a vast open world.

Expect everything from deranged robots and mutated beasts to bandit warlords as you fight to unravel the Timekeeper’s secrets and free Kairos one explosive step at a time. Whether you play solo or co-op with up to three other players, you’re in for relentless action and absurd humor.

Release Date and Platforms

Borderlands 4 launches September 12, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game is also confirmed to release on Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2025.
