Marvel Rivals, the popular free-to-play superhero team-based PvP shooter developed by NetEase, is set to launch its first season, “Eternal Night Falls,” on January 10, 2025, at 1 AM PST.
In this season, Dracula and Doctor Doom have plunged New York City into eternal darkness by disrupting the moon’s orbit, unleashing an army of vampiric creatures. With Doctor Strange trapped in the Entangled Astral Plane, the Fantastic Four—Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing—join forces with other Marvel heroes to combat this new threat.
New Playable Characters
- Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards): Possesses the ability to stretch his body, allowing for versatile combat strategies.
- Invisible Woman (Sue Storm): Can generate force fields and become invisible, providing both offensive and defensive support.
- Human Torch (Johnny Storm): Controls fire, enabling high-damage attacks against enemies.
- The Thing (Ben Grimm): Boasts immense strength and durability, serving as a frontline tank in battles.
New Game Mode and Maps
Season 1 introduces “Doom Match,” a game mode where 8 to 12 players compete on a single map, each representing different factions. Players earn points by defeating opponents, with the top 50% declared winners at the end of the match.
Additionally, three new maps set in a darkened New York City will be available:
- Sanctum Sanctorum
- Midtown
- Central Park
Player Milestones
Since its launch on December 6, 2024, Marvel Rivals has achieved significant milestones, including over 20 million players within two weeks. On Steam, the game peaked with 480,990 concurrent players during its launch weekend, ranking among the top five most-played games on the platform.
