“Rurouni Kenshin” Anime Reboot Premieres July 6, Reveals New Promo Video

Fans of the popular “Rurouni Kenshin” manga series are in for a treat as the highly-anticipated new anime series is set to premiere on July 6, 2023. The show’s staff recently released the fourth promotional video for the anime, which also revealed that singer-songwriter Reol created the ending theme song, “Kissaki,” for the series.

The new anime adaptation is a retelling of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s original manga series, which centers around the story of Kenshin Himura, a former assassin during the Meiji Restoration era who is seeking a new life away from violence. The cast for the new anime project includes Sōma Saitō as Kenshin, Rie Takahashi as Kaoru Kamiya, Taku Yashiro as Sanosuke Sagara, and Makoto Koichi as Yahiko Myojin. Other voice actors also joined the project such as Yūma Uchida and Saori Ōnishi.

The series is being directed by Hideyo Yamamoto at LIDEN FILMS, with Terumi Nishii responsible for character design and Hideyuki Kurata as the series scriptwriter. Yū Takami is composing the music for the anime.

Aside from premiering on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block, the anime series will also be shown in other venues worldwide, including Japan, the United States, France, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and South Korea. Fans in Japan can also catch cast members Sōma Saitō, Rie Takahashi, Makoto Koichi, and Taku Yashiro at two screening events on June 18 at Tokyo’s United Cinema Aqua City Odaiba.

With over 72 million copies sold worldwide, the “Rurouni Kenshin” manga has garnered a massive following, and the new anime project aims to cater to both long-time fans of the series and a new generation of fans who will undoubtedly fall in love with Kenshin’s story.
